An Epistle from John for February
The Tale of The Trikes
Recently, I was at a Called Clergy Gathering in Topeka, Kansas with pastors from the Kansas West, Kansas East, and Nebraska Conferences.
We were asked to bring a $10.00 donation to the Gathering with no information. Have you ever been asked to make a blind donation with no information? You can imagine the hesitation on many of those present as they wanted more information myself included. The time came to make the donation and money and checks were collected still with no information. The Gathering continued with many activities until 4:00pm Wednesday when we again returned to our small group table and there on the table was a bicycle helmet, a Phillips screwdriver, a wrench, and a hammer. Also, on the table was a box with the picture of a tricycle on the outside of the box. After coming together, I opened the box and there was a tricycle in pieces. The facilitator, then, informed us that it was time to put the tricycle...

An Epistle from John for JanuaryPaul writes in his second letter to the Corinthians in chapter five and verse 17 that if anyone is in Christ Jesus, he is a new creation --- the old is gone and the new has come. The kids learned this verse at Vacation Bible School this past Summer. [Note: The new materials for 2012 are here and we are in the planning stages for Vacation Bible School 2012. I hope the kids are planning on it and we will, again, need help. Please let Connie know what you can do to help. Thank You]To continue, who doesn’t like new? Who doesn’t like the smell of new? A new car has a certain aroma about it. In fact you can get air fresheners that have that new car smell. A business, recently, opened here offering new car smell air fresheners to their first 100 visitors each day of their Grand Opening. And who doesn’t like the smell of a new baby after the bath and powdering? Frank Barone in an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond comes in and smells the heads of the twin boys and is told by Raymond to quit...

December, 2011
Trinity Family and Friends,
Let me introduce ourselves, we are John and Dixie Thompson your new parsonage family. We arrived here and I assumed the role of Senior Pastor on July 1, 2011 after 5 years serving the Attica and Zenda, Kansas United Methodist Churches. Dixie and I have appreciated the welcome we have received and I have appreciated very much the patience of many people that have helped me to become aware of the traditions and many ways of being in ministry for Trinity.
Trinity has many opportunities to minister to a wide number of people in a variety of different ways. We have WOW [Worship On Wednesday], Junior and Senior UMYF Groups, and Vacation Bible School where we feed not only good food but also the Bread of Life. Young People are provided a gospel based program that includes Bible Stories, contemporary stories, and also a time for singing, exercise, and contact with people who love children and who share the love of Jesus with them. This is important because for many this may be the only opportunity they may have to hear the Good News of The Gospel.
The Thrift Store has had a good year and has been able to help a variety of people and existing mission projects, as well as some new opportunities of outreach. The Thrift Store is in a mission to make a difference in people’s lives and it does.
Trinity, also, provides several great ministries to the Russell community and area. One example, at Thanksgiving we served over 125 meals and had 80 take out dinners. It is a great ministry for many people who would have no place to go or family to share a meal with on Thanksgiving.
Our Worship Experiences have been uplifting and the music provided in many different settings is a BLESSING. We continue our radio broadcasts on KRSL 990 Radio reaching our shut-ins as well as many others listening in the community and surrounding area.
There are so many ways that Trinity is a Vital Congregation making a Vital Difference in Russell and beyond and you are a part of it.
We are grateful and thankful for your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service, and your witness for the many ministries here at Trinity. We are thankful for the financial support people like you have given in a variety of ways over the years and we continue to need your ongoing support to the General Budget as we make a difference in the lives of people. We ask that you prayerfully consider your gifts and ask for your continued participation in our ministry TOGETHER in 2012.
Thank You
Reverend John C. Thompson

If the Russell Trinity United Methodist Church depended on you for their existence, would it?
How important is Your Church?
This is the month of October. This is our fourth month TOGETHER. We are, now, in Fall full swing with many activities happening and many more planned. One of those activities will be our Annual Church Meeting on Sunday, December 4th at 1:00PM. In preparation, we will be holding a number of meetings and reports will be written. Budgets will be prepared for 2012 and Leadership selected for the different roles in the Church Family.
We have a membership of 422 “Professing” Members and it takes everyone’s involvement in the life of the Church. When we became United Methodists, we promised to uphold the Church by Our Prayers, Our Presence, Our Gifts [Financial and Talents], Our Service, and , now, since the last General Conference Our Witness. It will take all of us participating in the life of Trinity. Are there ways that you are and can be involved in the life...
